The Supreme Court of Preparatory Investigation has ordered the lifting of the phone secrecy of ex-President Pedro Castillo, who is currently under pre-trial detention in the Peruvian capital, Lima.

The latest measure was adopted at the request of the Second Specialized Transitory Supreme Prosecutor's Office, the Judiciary reported on Friday.

The purpose of this decision is for companies operating in the telecommunications sector to inform the aforementioned Prosecutor's Office of the ownership, as well as of the traffic of incoming and outgoing phone calls by the former Head of State.

Said information must include the date, time, and duration of the communications registered between December 2 and 16, 2022.

Judge Juan Carlos Checkley ordered that the enforcement of this measure by the Public Ministry take place, under functional responsibility, for the purposes of the investigation into the ex-president over the alleged crime of rebellion.
